Our workshop

The aim of each workshop is to inform, sensitise and destigmatise.

What do you already know?

The students are met at their current level of knowledge through an open introduction and a basis is created for the upcoming time together. For example, the questions ‚What is a mental disorder anyway?‘ and ‚What is a stigma?‘ are clarified together with the students

What is mental illness?

This is usually followed by a discussion of four disorders, which are presented in a clear way. In addition to providing technical background knowledge, the focus here is primarily on open dialogue with the students. Questions such as ‚How does a person with depression seem to feel?‘ to ‚Are people who are treated for schizophrenia actually violent?‘ can be discussed.

What can you do?

Another focus of the workshop is on the question ‘What can you do – if you are affected yourself or if relatives and friends have a mental disorder?’. We will explain why talking about it is so important, but also what it means in this context to set your own boundaries or to respect the boundaries of others.

Where do you get help?

The 90 minutes are rounded off with the separate topic area ‘Seeking help’, which contains tips and tricks as well as specific help centres. These are customised to your region so that students have something specific to hand if needed.

The components

Standard components: Depression & anxiety disorders

Two of the disorders that we discuss with the students are included in every workshop. These are both the disorders of depression and anxiety disorders, as it has been shown that this is where there are often the most points of contact*.

Depression

Angststörungen

Elective components: Two out of seven disorders

For the remaining two disorders: you decide. We will coordinate with you individually for each class in advance. You can choose from 7 other disorders. Does one of them sound particularly interesting? Has your class already had experience with one of the possible disorders and do you think an exchange in our confidential setting could be particularly valuable? We clarify all of this in advance so that the workshop offers the greatest possible added value for each individual class in addition to the basic information.
